Q1. Explain how to form a ratio and how ratios can be used to compare two numbers. Use examples to help explain your thinking.

A1. You form a ratio by finding part to part information and usually simplified to read smaller numbers. Ratios can be used to compare two numbers by understanding numbers being compared. Because ratios are what you compare two numbers in a comparison.

Q2. What strategy can you use to compare two ratios? Be very specific. Your strategy should allow you to tell whether the two ratios are the same or different. Make up a problem that can be solved by using your strategy.

A2. I can use the strategy that makes me compare the two ratios from part to whole by adding the two numbers (total) and compare that to one of the original numbers and make it into an equivalent number with another ratio. There are two recipes of concentrate to water which is 3 to 5, and 6 to 10, are the two recipes going to taste the same or different? The two recipes are going to taste the same because 3 to 5 ratio is the same as 6 to 10 when I multiply it by 2.

Q3. The percent of orange concentrate in a juice mix is 60%. What is the ratio of concentrate to water in mix?

A3. The ratio of concentrate to water in mix is 6 to 4 or 3 to 2. How I got the ratio is I did is I put 100 as the total and 60 as the orange concentrate and 100-60=40 so 40 was the water and I simplified it to 6 to 4 and I simplified it more and made it to 3 to 2.

Q4. The ratio of concentrate to water in a juice mix is 3 to 5. What percent of the mix is concentrate?

A4. The percentage of the mix of concentrate when the ratio of concentrate to water is 3 to 5 is 37.5%.

Summary: In investigation we learned how to convert a ratio to a certain amount of things we want to get by finding an equivalent number and trying to convert the total. Also I learned the way to convert equivalent fractions better.
